Natalie rose immediately after concluding Ingrid’s text. She slid her feet into her slippers and padded to the door. On opening, she met her mom who just arrived. She was holding a receiver.
“It’s your dad.” Mom said.
Natalie snatched the receiver and unintentionally slammed the door at her mom.
“Dad?” she cried dropping on the bed. “I want to go back to school, I have to.”
“Calm down honey.” Dad came on the phone, coaxing her.
Natalie sighed and remained silent.
“Listen, Natalie. Your mom and I know how much you love that school.” He said softly and Natalie felt as if she was a baby again. “But, all that happened left us in doubts. If your mom does not want you to go back to Hamerton is because she is worried about you.”
“But, I am fine dad. Paula will not hurt me again. She is already confined.”
“Natalie, apart from that girl Ashleigh, your best friend Caitlin also died. We don’t want the same to happen to you.”
Natalie drew a deep sigh. “You don’t understand.” She said feeling so broken. She could not accept not being able to help. People will die…
Dad was silent for a few seconds then he came again. “Honey, is this what about we talked about before you left? You told me that you did not want to leave and that you wanted to be with your mom, realizing her condition.”
Natalie was silent.
“And I told you to do what you thought was right.” Dad added on his own.
“Yes.” She replied in a whisper. “I need you dad.” She said squeezing her eyes shut and releasing tears.
“Okay.” He said. “Please give me some time so that I can sort out your school fees issues and airplane tickets.”
She smiled. “Thank you father.”
“Anything for you honey.”
She rose from the bed. “How about mom? Will she be able to manage alone?”
“I’ll ask Mrs. Grey, my great aunt, to move in with her.”
“Okay father. Thank you.”
“It’s alright honey. Now this time that you are with your mom, please make sure that she is alright. Spend time together and don’t quarrel. Kapish?”
She chuckled. “Kapish.”

what happened next? stay tuned to find out.
