Most students dispersed to their classrooms. Only the reporters escorted Trevor to The Parliament.
At the entry of the President, the Parliament rose and he walked quickly to his seat at some distance from the speaker. All that he had told the media were his own words and that gave him a bit of tension. He wondered that if the ministers and MPs had not sit to discuss the school problems how much of a fool he would look in front of everyone in Hamerton.
The speaker rose and begun coordinating the event. “As we can all see, the assembly is complete. The president is here and I shall welcome him to address The Parliament and the school at large.” He turned to Trevor. Trevor stared at him. He could read the expression on the Speaker’s face. Surely just as Trevor and the rest of the assembly, the Speaker was lost in the whole matter. They were hardly aware of the agenda. In fact, the so called meeting was supposed to involve a few people in their private office.
“Amh Mr. President, you may have the floor.” The Speaker said quickly and sat.
Trevor sighed with relief. As long as they left everything to him, he could handle it.
Not always were the leaders unaware of the public’s problems. These mishaps and inefficiency seldom occurred. Whenever they did however, Trevor was supposed to be around to save the day.
He bent forward to reach the mike on his desk. “Thank you Speaker for this opportunity and well thank you Hamerton for giving me the mandate of my office to address you this morning.” He begun with his typical words. “I know that our school has been facing problems. There has been frequent power cuts causing water shortages. Without power, our generators can’t pump water to the upper floors of our boarding houses. I’m not so sure for girls but, I was with my colleagues and our chief janitor just yesterday at level 16 boy’s toilet and,” he attempted to skip that which he never really went through. “Truly, we have a problem. Ps, we did not get the school paper this week because of electricity deficiency.” He guessed, knowing that Cheryl would back him up if it wasn’t true. “So I would like to assure you that your leaders are well aware of what’s going on and it’s been taken care of.
“I presented your complaints and our suggestions as the school Government, to the school principal and he said that he’s meeting with the school board to work on the matters.” He paused. “Concerning sports amh, it is not true that we have no sports this year. We, we do have sports this year. I saw the sports prefect earlier this morning before the assembly she told me that he needed more people. Our strikers, George Wilson, Kevin Grey, Samuel Mattison to mention but a few, are graduating this year and that leaves our school team, Five Torches, with a gap that needs to be covered. And that’s just talking about football, I did not mention Cricket, out of the 15000 etcetera students that we have in our secondary section only what…” he threw a glance at a brunette who sat in the front seats opposite him and the Speaker. “Nicky?” he called
She stretched her hands waving her fingers.
“Yes.” Trevor said turning back to the mass. “Ten. That’s the figure that my sports Minister is giving me. Nicole, Irene Stewart, find her now and she’ll tell you how much Hamerton is lagging behind in sports. So, in other things we can’t complain, we need to be more initiative. Amh, we had a plan for Talent competitions…Hamerton’s got talent-” the hall broke into a laughter. He just chuckled and opened his mouth again restoring order in the room. “So, please I ask you to stay calm and wait for the changes. The Government is working, the school administration, the higher administration is working. And everything will be for your own benefit. I request that every student should resume with his or her timetable. The members of the Parliament and all other leaders shall remain behind waiting for word and once we have it I promise that it shall be relayed to you. Thank you.”

With that, Trevor concluded his speech. He sat back on his seat sighing with relief. He noticed that it was the same for all his subjects, including the Speaker, Brendan. For a moment they all thinking that they would loose their jobs because, if the school problems were not properly addressed, the students had the right to remove the President by vote of No Confidence and call for another elections. If another election was to be held then the Parliament will have to be broken and renovated in the hands of a new President. Having saved all that from happening, Trevor was thankful.

did he really save things? stay tuned
