Chapter 14 - episode10

              HAMERTON

Hallow new readers!
This is a story about Hamerton, a large school that has a lot of things going on, most of them being illegal and terrorizing. Natalie Bradley, an intelligent and talented girl from Brooklyn joins this school after her friend Caitlin who was allegedly murdered in Hamerton. She is agonized by the news of her friend's tragic death and she has to face up with Hamerton's bloody governance in order to secure the President's badge that has the power to decode a bomb that could cause a large massacre, soon.
She teams up with Trevor Tommy, the ex and most renowned president of Hamerton, Ingrid, and other Class D students against Nicky and her fellow evil seniors.

what happened last time; Natalie presents herself to Corny Howls to ask for permit for her and her friends to see Trevor and save his life. Corny asks her to give her names of the people who partook in Trevor's kidnapping but she is reluctant to provide the information. They also learn that Erin and Morningstar had a relationship before they were both murdered.

“What!” Natalie exclaimed after Corny’s revelation. “That is not possible.”
“It is.” Corny assured her, tapping Michael’s phone. He then turned to a receiver and pressed a button that brought Millies into the office.
“Yes sir?” Millies asked.
“Contact the London police department. I’ll beep you with this kid’s number and then you will give it to them so that they can check his conversations and engagements prior to his death.”
“Yes officer.”
“Oh, and check his email, it should come with the phone number. We should be able to gain access to his mails. I also want detail of his Google searches, downloaded apps, everything major or minor that relates to him. I want to know everything.” Corny added.
Millies nodded. “And I will be waiting for your call, I mean, beep.”
Natalie glanced at her as she walked out and looked back at Corny. “Okay, can I see Trevor now?”
He tapped the phone again and relinquished it on the table, turning to her. “Give me names.”
She grimaced and sighed.
“Natalie, why are you protecting them?” he asked with disappointment in his tone.
“They are my friends. It is him, actually and though he did a bad thing by kidnapping Trevor, I can’t tell on him to the police.”
“But, he is a criminal and it will be great to start diminishing the sect. Your silence has already taken a pair of lives.”
She was silent.
He leaned forward. “I am going to tell you what I told Trevor. Talk to me.”
She rounded her eyes. It was obvious that she was not going to cooperate.
He took a pen. “Give me names, quickly.”
She narrowed her eyes. “What happens if... I don’t?”
“I’m afraid that I will have to arrest you for being an accomplice to Trevor’s abduction.”
Natalie gulped.
“But, we won’t have to get to that if you just tell me, kindly, who is responsible for Trevor’s disappearance.” He went on, trying to persuade her.
“Okay.” She sighed, relenting to his request. “If you give me a few minutes, please?”
“Minutes? What for?”
“I’ll just gather my courage, you understand.” She said and paused to check his expression; he hardly seemed to have understood. “In the lady’s room.” She added.
“Okay. But, keep it in your head that you have to tell the truth. For everybody’s good.”

She nodded and rose, leaving.

Chapter 14- episode 8

Previously on Hamerton;
Sunday
Michael was standing in the balcony of Hamerton Chief building, waiting.
He had his agreements to meet with a girl from class D. He leaned on the balcony rail, and looked down on the school campus. There were many students heading to the stadium which was the largest stage to accommodate all of them for the Christian mass.
Michael had his own plans. Although the girl he was going to meet was from ‘the other side’, he had feelings for her.
Like Steven, who was recently transferred from class D, Michael was in Class S. The two classes were not in good terms because class S favored the seniors and they score ties with class D frequently.
Seeing a girl from Class D was risky for Michael. More because he was running for President and class D had their own promising candidate; Natalie Bradley. Despite that Natalie had not shown up in the school campus, Michael could not have been too confident that he was the only one standing to replace Trevor as President of Hamerton.
As he watched, his cell phone buzzed in his trouser pocket and he took it out, expecting that it was her message.
It was.
The screen read

One message received: Erin

He smiled and opened it quickly.

Seen you.

He turned down to the grounds again, looking for her. He wondered where she could have seen him from.
He drew his phone close to call her before a voice interrupted him.
“Well, well, well. If it isn't Michael Morningstar the school President.”
Michael lowered his phone to behold a couple of seniors with built bodies and carrying clubs.
He folded his face with confusion. “Wait…What is going on here guys?” he asked, tottering back. The rail supported him.
He stared at them with popped out eyes as Duane Duncan, leader of the troupe, beat a baseball club on his own palm.
“What are those for? Duncan? Duncan?” Michael shouted.
Duane laughed at him along with the others. “Oh, he even cries like a sissy.”
Michael gulped with his Adam’s apple rising and falling. He dropped his phone that also slipped down to the ground.
Duncan pulled him from the rail and pushed him to the floor.
Michael screamed in agony.
“Mr. President. We have orders from our real president, Trevor to teach you a lesson.” Duncan said to Michael before he hit him.

Present day on Hamerton.
Natalie wondered around the building and by chance caught sight with officer Cowls leaving the elevator to the ground floor. He was escorted by a familiar lady officer and some of the school staff and students.
Natalie was amazed to see him. Surely Trevor did not send him. Was he really part of the Interpol? She wondered.
She followed the troupe to Mr. Gram’s office. She guessed that, they used the Discipline office for interrogation.

Inside the office, Corny laid Michael’s cellphone on the desk. It had a shattered screen and scratched sides.
“Thank you Samsung Galaxy.” Corny said, rounding the desk to sit on his chair.
“Why? You’re not sure that it’s working.” Millies said.
“It should. Wait till the boy brings its charger.”
Millies rounded her eyes and sighed. “Whatever.” She said and left.
Corny searched for a socket behind his chair. He wanted to be ready to plug in Michael’s phone and recharge it.
His door opened.
“Thank you Tobias. Just, lay it on the desk.” Corny called.
“Yes.” Tobias sounded.
Corny heard footsteps to his desk.
“Officer, there’s a girl here to see you.” Millies sounded at the door.
Corny turned back to the office. “Alright, another witness?” he asked.
Tobias left, passing Millies at the office entrance.
“Yeah and more.” Millies replied.
Corny picked a charger from his desk. “How? Are we up for surprises?”
“I don’t know.” Millies shrugged.
“Okay. Let her in.”
He turned with his swing chair and bent his back to connect the phone to the charger.
“There.” He told the charger and turned around to face the new witness. “Natalie?” he called to her who sat across the desk.
Natalie offered a little smile. “We meet again.” She looked around, “in the same circumstances.”
“I agree.” He said nodding. “So, are you a witness here?” he asked, carelessly.
She chuckled “Obviously.”
He took a pen and a paper. “Okay, tell me how you were related to Erin Shawn or Michael Morningstar.”
“Erin was my friend.” She said, looking down with sadness. “We were like triplets, me, Erin and Ingrid.”
He felt pity for her. “I am so sorry for losing your friend, Natalie.”
Natalie looked at him. “Thank you.”
“So, what happened on the day that she was murdered? I mean, where were you and what were you doing?”
“I was on my way here. I just reported.”
He nodded filling that up.
“Mr. Corny, do you know where Trevor is?” she asked.
“I was hoping for you to answer for me that question. We have not communicated for a while. No one in the school campus has seen him after the interview on Saturday.”
“Well, he was kidnapped.”
Corny furrowed his eyebrows. “By who? Do you know?”
“His friend. Trevor was also unconscious when he was kidnapped. The guy who took him finally wants to help.”
“Wait, wait.” Corny interrupted her. “Someone kidnapped Trevor?”
She nodded.
“Who? Please give me a name.”
Natalie was not ready for that yet. Although she was angry and mad at Steven, she never thought of reporting him to the police. “No. Corny, can I not?”
Corny frowned. “You’re going to protect that criminal, Natalie? That is not what I would expect from an intelligent girl like you.”
“Please? Amh… we only need a permit to leave the school to see Trevor. He is dying.”
Corny felt like a bucket of water was poured over his head. “What!” he exclaimed. “Can you kindly tell me what’s going on?”
Natalie blinked quickly. Maybe she said what she should not have. Maybe he was right that she was wrong by protecting Steven. He committed a crime by kidnapping Trevor.
“Natal-” Corny begun before the cellphone behind him rang. He sighed, shaking his head with disappointment.
He turned with his swing chair to Michael’s phone and read the broken screen.

Incoming: mom

Corny was struck with sympathy. He waited for the call to end and drew the phone to the desk.
He pressed some buttons on the phone, recorded some contacts on a piece of paper and checked Michael’s call logs and messages.
Natalie glanced at the ill-treated phone. “May I ask to whom that belongs?”
“Michael.” Corny replied without looking at her. “I am still upset with your habit. If Trevor knew what you were doing, he wouldn't be pleased.”
Natalie eyed him with queer. Why did he have to say all that? She was going to save him.
“Please? I only need a permit for me and my friends to leave to see Trevor. He needs us. He needs me.”
Michael folded his face with confusion, scrutinizing Michael Morningstar’s phone. “Erin.” He called slowly. “How was she close to Michael before they were both killed?”
“I don’t think that they were any close. There’s always been a biff between class S and class D as there is between class D and the senior class.”
Corny glanced at her. “And they came from the antagonist classes?”
“Erin and Michael? Yes. Why? What is the problem?”
“I think that your biff did not exist for these two. Like Romeo and Juliet, they were going out. That explains why they also died together in the same scene.”
Natalie was speechless.

Continue;

Previously on Hamerton;
About a month back.
“Ashleigh was my friend.” Natalie begun vainly wiping tears that fell from her eyes.
“I know.” The officer replied oddly.
Natalie sighed. “It is true that, I agreed to play the games in the house but, it was totally Ashleigh and Lucie’s idea.”
“Natalie, you don’t have to add.”
Natalie furrowed her eyebrows at this. She was struck by the fact that the officer was actually supporting her.
Was it some kind of patriotism?
“I don’t understand?” she confessed holding a queer look at him.
The officer offered a grin. “Well, Miss Bradley, I am Corny Howl, Trevor Tommy sent me to take care of you.”
“What?” she asked. She was lost between how and why.
“Once Trevor discovered that you were paired with Miss Moure, he placed a contact, just in case. And as he suspected, Miss Moure tried to pull one on you. She must have tried to kill you but, accidentally murdered Miss Smith.”
She gasped, absorbing the few facts. They were too many revelations to handle. “So, you’re not a cop?”
“Am and a bodyguard.” He said and paused to read her expression. She seemed to hardly understand. He went on, “But, that’s not important. What is, is that, Miss Moure has all the power to implicate you in Ashleigh’s murder.”
“But, I didn't do it!” she snapped.
“No, you didn't. I can relay whatever I have got to the Berlin police department and Interpol and from the way Miss Moure is, she will easily give herself up.” He folded his face. “She has a lot of anger. She has no self-control.”
Natalie swallowed and said. “I just don’t believe how she could be capable of taking someone’s life so cruelly.”
The ‘cop’ shuffled his documents together. “You will be surprised of what people can do once you take on Hamerton’s case.”
“You know about Hamerton?”
“Yes. I know everything involving Trevor Tommy.”
She paused for a few seconds and asked. “How is he?”
“Mr. Tommy?”
“Yes.” She agreed smiling to herself. She missed him. He was her hero.
“He is fine, fine.” Corny replied nodding. “He must be with Ingrid because he has left Los Angeles.”
“Yeah. They are together now.”
“Okay. So, Miss Bradley, you are free to go. You can leave the country.” He said, urging her out.
She rose. “Thank you.”
He smiled a little and she left.

 Present day
Corny Howl sat again across an interrogation desk with one of the Hamerton students. He was heading the investigation of Erin and Michael Morningstar’s murder for the Interpol after he successfully solved the case in Berlin. He was also there as Trevor’s most trusted ally but, only in that case, he was not commissioned. Trevor himself was missing.
“When did you last see Trevor Tommy?” was his first question to every student in the office that the school gave him. He was desperate to find Trevor first.
The chubby Tobias swallowed. “On Saturday at the Interview.”
“They all say that…” Corny murmured under breath. “Okay. How are you related to Erin Shawn or Michael Morningstar?”
“Well, not so much. I have never engaged socially with either of them. Except, Erin was part of the interviewers in one that I took part.”
“Alright. Where were you the day that the murder took place?”
“Today?”
“Yes.”
“Oh… I was in my class.”
“Michael Morningstar was beaten. Do you know anything about that?” he asked and looked down at a file on his desk. “It says here that you are one of the Presidential candidates,” he raised his glance to him, “and you run against Michael Morningstar.”
“I know but, I didn't do it.”
“Do what?”
“Beat Michael Morningstar.”
Corny raised an inquisitive eyebrow. “Do you know who did?”
“I don’t know… Trevor?”
Corny leaned forward. “Why do you think that Trevor did it?”
Tobias shrugged. “I don’t know… they all say that.”
“Why?”
“I guess Michael said that before he died.”
“Or, they killed him to keep him from talking.” Corny helped.
Tobias was silent.
“You did it.”
Tobias widened his eyes. “I did not!”
“He was your only competition.”
“I didn't kill him.” Tobias cried. “I don’t even know how to do anything right. How can I take someone’s life?”
That was new.
Corny shuffled his papers. “Alright. You can leave this office.” He said. He already concluded that Tobias did not harm anyone.
Tobias rose and begun confessing before Corny looked at him. “On Sunday… Michael was meeting someone in the chief building’s balcony.”
 Corny narrowed his eyes. “Who?”
“I don’t know.” Tobias said. “But, I guess that it was a girl from the way Michael had dressed and sprayed himself.”
Corny took a few seconds digesting the new information. “That was before he got beaten.” He reckoned.
“Most likely.”
“How do you know what Michael was up to, Tobias?”
“Well, I did make a little follow up.” He paused to add with more embarrassment. “I also tracked his cell.”
Corny drew back, grimacing. “You were stalking your opponent? What kind of election rules does your school have?”
“A few.” Tobias replied without a thought.
“No wonder he was killed.” Corny thought aloud.
“That’s all I know.”
Corny nodded and Tobias left.
The office door opened and his assistant officer, Millies walked in.
“Let in another student Millies, please?” Corny asked.
“Before that. The officers searched Michael’s room and his stash. Well, there’s nothing to link him to any threat that could have killed him.”
“Have you checked his phone?”
Millies folded her Irish face. “No. There was no phone anywhere.”
Corny’s eyes flashed. “The boy who just left said that Michael had a cell phone.”
“Well, it wasn't on him when the ambulance took him to the mortuary.”
Corny glanced around the room. “So, where could it be?” he asked more to himself than to Millies. He got a thought. “Millies. Call that boy again. He can help us track Michael’s phone. That might be our first evidence to Michael’s murder and Erin’s.”
“Yes officer.” She said and left.

Duncan pulled him from the rail and pushed him to the floor.
Michael screamed in agony.
“Mr. President. We have orders from our real president, Trevor to teach you a lesson.” Duncan said to Michael before he hit him.

“… and he hit me again and again. Him and his friends.” Michael concluded his narration to Erin, Monday at noon in his ward.
Erin sighed, pitying him.
He laid on the hospital bed with a large part of his head bandaged. The doctor also said that he broke some ribs and that he would not have a proper digestion for weeks.
Emotionally, Michael was shuttered. He pulled a sulky look at everything. Previously, he was not a good guy but, even the people that he thought were better like, Trevor, were very evil.
“Michael, Trevor did not send those people to beat you up.”
“Duncan said that himself.”
“Even if he did. This is the work of Nicole. You know just what she is capable of.”
“What would she gain by harming me? I am supposed to be a part of them. You don’t know what you are saying.”
“I know. I know because, I saw her and Steve plot something.” She leaned forward to say discreetly. “I think that they kidnapped Trevor.”
Michael narrowed his eyes. He considered the thought for a second and shook his head. “Not possible.”
“It is. That’s why they are framing him for hurting you. So that he wouldn't have to return to Hamerton again. So that, their plans can prevail.”
Michael was reluctant to accept the truth. “I don’t believe it. Duncan used to work with Trevor when he was in the sect. He could only receive orders from Trevor.”
“You said it yourself. Used to. Now that he doesn't, Nicky has been using Duncan.”
Michael twisted his head to face another direction, remaining silent.
Erin was mad at this. “Michael, you have to tell Hamerton what happened so that Trevor can come back and everyone can be saved.”
He turned to her. “I don’t care about Hamerton, Erin. And don’t talk to me about favoring that criminal!” he raised his voice and groaned with pain afterward.
“Michael. You know that Trevor did not hurt you. He doesn't have it in his blood to hurt anyone, if you don’t do anything, many people will die.”
“I have already lost my ribs, nothing else matters.”
Erin felt her anger reach the brim of her neck. His humor upset other than make her laugh.
She thoughtlessly took a gun from her inside coat pocket. “Michael. I will not hesitate to you this.”
He raised his eyebrows in shock, looking behind her.
“Michael, snap out of it! You have to understand that, Trevor did not hurt you.” She continued, aiming the gun at him to gain his attention.
Michael gasped, holding her suddenly right before a bullet was released with a loud-
PA!
