Natalie
gritted her teeth. She could not stand Paula or her pestering bodyguards. She
could not wait for the day that the competitions would be over and she could
leave and not get to see Paula again.
“Patience
my girl Natalie.” She murmured, comforting herself. “Just a few more days to
go.”
“Talking
to yourself?” A girl entered the room and called.
Natalie
rose but, not to greet her. “Oh Ashleigh, you don’t know just how much that St.
Ann Marie girl is getting on my nerves.” She said walking to a corner where a
closet was.
“Oh.
Sorry. And what did she do this time?”
“Just
the same thing she does every time, mock me.”
Ashleigh
rounded her eyes, Natalie guessed that she was tired of the topic. “Well
alright. You’ll get rid of her soon anyway. Listen amh, tonight? Here?”
“Seriously?
I am so tired. We've come a long way Ash.”
“I
know and so have we. But, yesterday was pretty much fun at the motel.”
“What
if it’s against the house rules?” Natalie asked now giving Ashleigh her back
and opening the closet.
Ashleigh
was an African American who studied at Wood High School in Scotland. She became
friends with Natalie soon after realizing that they both came from Brooklyn.
“I
don’t think so. You can’t keep the guests from a little fun. Besides that,
there is no matron sleeping with us in our quarters. It will be okay.”
Natalie
took out a dress from the closet and turned to Ashleigh. “Alright.”
“Yippy!”
Ashleigh shrieked. “I’ll go tell the others.” She said leaving excitedly.
“Aargh!”
Paula growled dropping on her friend’s bed heavily.
Lucie,
who was in the room with her, shook her head and said. “You should get rid of
that girl.”
“I
would if only I knew how.”
Lucie
narrowed her eyes. She tried to figure out ways to help her friend.
Paula
made a fist with her hands as her face wrinkled with rage. “I just wish that I could..
aargh! I won’t care what I’ll have to do just to destroy her.”
“Hey!”
Lucie snapped. “I know how.” She said, smiling at her idea.
Paula
glanced t her. “How?”
“I heard
some girls talking that, there will be some hide-and-seek games tonight. It was
all Hamerton’s idea.”
Paula
raised her eyebrows feeling lost. “And so?”
Lucie
marched to her on the bed. “Don’t you realize it yet? If it’s the Hamertons who
are head of the games then Natalie will be involved.” She paused glancing in
the air for a second and gazed at her. “We can make her seek and bring her to
the edge of the stairs where we also tie a rope.”
Paula’s
eyes widened. “Magnificent.” She said breaking into a grin.
Lucie
laughed nodding.
“But,
Natalie hates me, she might not let me participate in the game.” Paula said
feeling a bit discouraged.
“You
don’t have to. We only need to place the rope right where it should be and make
Natalie come down the stairs.”
Paula
nodded. “That’s right. Well-deserved for a person like her.” She rose, looking
in the atmosphere with anger. “I hate her, I hate her, I hate her with a
passion.”
Lucie
turned to her, walking behind Paula. “And soon she is going to be history.”
Paula
grinned devilishly.
She could
not wait.
