Chapter 4: Hannah Pared
“Corny Howls?” A heavy voice sounded over Corny’s cellphone when he received it.
“Yes. Who’s this?” Corny asked.
“We have your wife.”

***

Mrs. Bradley sat on the couch of the living room of her house, reading a women’s magazine.
A few days had gone by since she gave her statement at the police station, concerning Simon’s case. She was not called to the station again and individually, decided not to keep track of what happened to Simon’s murderer.
“Mmh. This seems interesting.” She said to herself as she came to a clause on the magazine. “How to quickly loose the excess belly skin after giving_” she read right before the front door sounded knocking.
“Oh.” She said, twisting her head to face the house entrance. “That must be Grey. He has been out with Junior since morning and he did not even care to mention where he was taking him.”
She got on her feet and slid her feet into her indoor slippers.

KNOCK! KNOCK!

The door sounded again.
“Coming!” she called, shuffling her way to the door. She unfastened the locks. “Grey, where did you guys go?” she asked, right before she opened it.
Her mouth dropped open when she beheld her husband, Nathan, standing behind the door in a traditional suit, holding their child. Greyson stood behind them, leaning on some luggage.
“Surprise!” Greyson said, when Mrs. Bradley became speechless with gladness.
As Mr. Bradley watched, his wife broke into a laughter and tears of joy.
Mr. Bradley smiled back. “C’mon honey? Aren't you going to let us in?”
“Nathan.” She reckoned, hugging him and the baby.
“I missed you too Diana.” Mr. Bradley replied.
She released tears of joy and drew back only to give him a long passionate kiss.
Greyson took the liberty to open the door wide and walk in with one suitcase. “I’ll leave you lovebirds alone.” He said, taking the luggage to another room.
The couple drew apart, laughing at each other.
“You almost hurt the baby.” He teased her.
“No, he was fine, I’m sure.”
He just smiled.
She took her hand, leading him inside the house. “What’s up with the attire and why didn't you tell me that you were coming?” she asked, also receiving the baby from him.
“Oh. This,” he touched his orange colored shirt, embroidered by black and yellow flowers. “It’s called Khanga.”
“I know that.”
“Yeah. So, it’s a souvenir.”
“Well, it looks great on you.”
“Thank you. I got you a pair as well. It’s in one of the suitcases. Khanga is the main dress code in Tanzania.”
“Thank you honey for remembering me.” She said, and gave him another kiss. “So, tell me why you didn't let me know that you were arriving today.”
He laughed a little. “I just wanted to give my darling wife a surprise.”
She beamed at him. “Aaw you are so sweet.”
Greyson returned to the room, scurrying to the door to get the other suitcases.
“Greyson?” Mrs. Bradley called him after she and Mr. Bradley, sat on one of the long sofas of the living room.
“Yes Mrs. Bradley?” Greyson replied, halting at the doorway.
“When you’re done with that, please come join us with some drinks from the fridge.”
“Thank you Mrs. Bradley.” Grey said, smiling.
The lady turned back to her husband. “So, how was your trip and everything? Will you tell us, Nathan Junior and me?”
Mr. Bradley sighed first with exhaustion. “Well, it was great. I will give you details later, you tell me first how you and the baby have been faring.”
She smiled. “We are okay.”
“Really? That’s great to hear then.” he said and peeped into the baby’s blanket. “Have I missed baby’s first steps?”
She laughed. “Nathan! No. He is hardly six months old.”
“Oh. That is good. So, Junior, you are going to have your daddy to teach you how to walk.” He said to the baby.
Mrs. Bradley furrowed her eyebrows, queering her husband’s statement.
He noticed the expression on his wife’s face and smiled at her. “Yes Diana. I am home for good.”

***

Natalie sat behind a monitor of one of the desktop computers in the computer lab of the Chief building of Hamerton.
After resigning from being President, a lot of students showed dissatisfaction with her decision. Many of them called her President, making commotion in the hallways and in the cafeteria, when she went for her meals with the local students.
Some of the teachers also told her that she should run for the position again. But, Natalie did not want to. She had her own plans.
“The students love you.” Ingrid said, occupying a chair beside Natalie behind the computer desk.
Natalie sighed. “We have been through this Ingrid. Whatever you, Ivan or anyone else say, I am not going back to being President.”
“But, why? You said in your speech that you love to govern Hamerton.”
“No doubt about that. I love following Trevor’s footsteps. But, I just want to be normal.”
“Normal, Natalie? Who says that, it ain't normal to be President?”
Natalie remained silent, waiting to log in to her email account.
Ingrid sighed. “Natalie? Think about it.”
Natalie shook her head a little. “No. I am not and I won’t.”
“Okay. So, what about saving Hamerton?”
Natalie twisted her head to face her. “Even you can do that. Just run for President.”
“Natalie, I am not as accepted as you are.”
“Of course you are. You are bright, smart, honest… a President material.” She said and turned back to the screen.
“That is not all that it takes. Hey, do you really think that of me?” Ingrid said and added before Natalie had the chance to consent or deny. “Well, I don’t know if I can stand in front of a big crowd and give a speech like you did yesterday.”
“Wait.”
“Wait what?”
I've got a reply from Caitlin.” Natalie announced with excitement.
Ingrid raised her eyebrows, turning to the screen.
She noticed Caitlin’s name along with her new email address, on top of other Facebook mails of Natalie. “Open it. Quickly!”
“It’s loading.”
“Oh, wow. She remembered us.”
“See, I told you that she used this new email.” Natalie said before the email opened.

Hallo Natalie. I am so sorry for not contacting you all this time but, be sure that, I was thinking about you.
My dad warned me not to communicate with you for the good of my security since, as you may have already know that, I was the target of bad people in your school.
I still can’t talk freely but, I miss you so much.
Tell me how you are faring as soon as you get this message.
Yours truly,
Caitlin.

“Reply Natalie, come on.” Ingrid urged her.
“Okay, okay. Amh… poor her that, she had to go through what she went through.” Natalie said, typing. “But, she is missing us.”
“Tell her that you are with me.”
“Sure.” Natalie agreed, typing;

Hey Caitlin.
I miss you very much as well. We, actually. I am with Ingrid right now. You must remember her from Brimstone.
We thought that, you were dead. I am so sorry for what happened to you.my dear friend Caitlin.
How did you escape?

“Natalie? Why did you ask her that? We already know how she run away.” Ingrid reproached Natalie as soon as she sent the message.
“Well, I just want to know more details. Coming from her, you understand.”
Ingrid turned to the screen, satisfied with Natalie’s reasons. “Okay. She must be a fast typist. There’s another message from her.”

Erin set me free and working with Mr. Dickson, I was able to contact my father. He sent me a ticket to Canada. He said that, my brother should remain behind and finish school. Since then, I have been living here, in Canada.

“Strange for her not to mention the year that she was in depression or something.” Ingrid commented after reading the email.
“Ingrid? Perhaps she wants to forget that part of her life.”
“If you say so.”
Natalie wrote;

I am very sorry but, the most important thing is that, you are alive.

Caitlin replied;

Truly. I thank God. Tell me. How did you find out about that sect in Hamerton?

Natalie said;

Erin told me. But, don’t worry. We have a badge that could crash their plans. The President’s badge.
According to Trevor, it can decode the bombs that the sect are planning to use to destroy Hamerton.

Caitlin said;

Oh. Erin, may her soul rest in peace. So, you have the President’s badge to help you save the school? How does it work? Who invented it, Trevor Tommy?

Natalie paused, typing at that message. “How does she know that Erin died?” she wondered loudly.
“Yeah. I admit that, that’s strange. Ask her how she does?” Ingrid suggested.
Natalie did.

How do you know that Erin died?

There was no reply.
Natalie asked again.

I learnt from Ralph.

“That explains everything.” Ingrid said, having read Caitlin’s response email.
There was another message from Caitlin.

Trevor is a hero. It was great of him to create a counter attack plan. Like that badge. I imagine that it was his idea, right?

Natalie wrote;

Yes. Have you also spoken to him? I gave him your email.

Caitlin replied;

No. Not yet. Where is he anyway? Did he graduate? Is he back in USA?

Natalie said;

No. Last I heard was that, he is in London.

Caitlin asked;

Oh really? He said that to you? That must be a good thing for you dear. Ralph told me that you two were going out.

Natalie smiled reading the text.

You are making blush. Yeah we are going out. But, no. He did not personally tell me that he is in London. But, hey, there are a lot of things we have to catch up; with you and well me and Trevor…. You know J

Caitlin also sent Natalie stickers.

Yes dear. Well, I still don’t have a boyfriend but, I am okay.
And Ingrid? Is she seeing anyone?

Natalie giggled, writing on Ingrid’s behalf.

She was dating this traitor guy, Steven. But, they are over now. Ingrid doesn't have long lasting relationships.

Ingrid beat Natalie at this. “Natalie!” she snapped at her. “Steven was not a traitor and it is not true that, I don’t have long lasting relationships.”
“Of course it is true.”
Ingrid shook her head. “And hey, how do you know that Trevor is in England? I know I don’t. Were you told?”
“Yeah. By Henry. Trevor is in England.” Natalie replied proudly, typing a response message to Caitlin.
“Okay… but, how is that supposed to be special? Hasn't he always been in England?”
“Well, yeah but, this time, his father wanted to send him back to California so he asked Henry to take his place.”
“Oh. That is typical for Trevor. He never liked to stay with his father.”
“Can you imagine? Henry also added that Corny’s wife was kidnapped and that Trevor’s life and mine are in danger.”
Ingrid was shocked. “What? Maggie was kidnapped?”
“Is that the name of Corny’s wife?”
Ingrid sighed and remained silent, digesting the news.
“Ingrid. What do you think? Trevor’s life could be in a very big danger?”
“Because he has Henry and his other duplicates to back him up, not that much. The one that I am worried about is Maggie. She is married to a police officer and she is strong but, she may not have the courage to withstand torture or whatever her kidnappers could give her.”
Natalie paused typing. “Oh. What are we going to do now?” she asked, already getting worried.
Ingrid was silent, thinking.
Natalie decided to send the message to Caitlin.

Hey Caitlin. Sorry but, I have to go. We have a lot of things in our hands right now.
Okay, catch you later.

After waiting for a few seconds, Caitlin’s message came.

Alright. Bye.

“Maybe, we should just stay indoors.” Ingrid suggested.
“That’s strange.” Natalie commented.
“Strange what?” Ingrid asked, glancing at the computer screen.
“Caitlin always uses farewell when we parted.”
Ingrid chuckled. “C’mon Natalie, bye is the fastest bidding. Maybe it was the closest word to her mind at that moment. Besides that, three years have already gone by, maybe she already forgot your ‘farewell’.”
Natalie nodded and begun to sign out of her email dress. “C’mon, let’s go to discuss that issue outside of here.”
“Alright.” Ingrid agreed and they left together.

HAMERTON 2 Chapter 3 episode 14

HAMERTON 2
Thank you God for this opportunity.

Hamerton. A large school offering the finest Education to the students of the state and overseas. Natalie joins this school arriving from Brooklyn and she has grief over her lost friends who were murdered in Hamerton. Happy weekend viewers!

She wants to communicate with Trevor and she gets an idea of reaching him through his email.

--------
Ivan pushed the door of Natalie’s office open with her speech in hand. He found Ingrid alone, shuffling some documents from the desk drawer.
“What are you looking for?” He asked.
“The badge but, it’s not here.” She said and paused searching, sighing. “I just hope that she doesn't give it up. It’s the only thing that could save Hamerton.”
Ivan glanced at the desk and saw the President’s badge. “Isn't that it?”
“No. The real one has golden inscriptions. When we stole it from Archibald’s office, he could not replace it with another with gold inscriptions. He used bronze.”
Ivan nodded in understanding then asked. “Whose idea was it to put a…” he looked for words. “?Bomb terminating device in a badge anyway?”
“Trevor.”
Ivan raised his eyebrows. He was perplexed. “Why?” He asked.
Ingrid sighed first and reclined to the President’s chair before telling him. “Well, he thought that the attack would take place in his reign but, once they were threatened by him, they postponed it till after his retire.”
“So, what does it actually do? Undo the bombs?”
Ingrid shrugged. “No one knows except him.”
Didn't he tell you?”
“He should be able to. Only, we haven’t had luck communicating with him.”
Ivan was silent.
“Do you know when Natalie has to announce her resignation?” she asked.
“Yes. Archibald phoned me and bawled at me to announce an urgent assembly to the students in the theater at nine.”
“Oh we have less than thirty minutes to get that badge.” She said in worry. “Does Natalie already know?”
“I don’t think so. Unless she was told, no.”
Ingrid rose. “I have to find her.”
“We both have. I have to deliver this to her as well.” He said waving the speech papers in his hand.
“What did you write in there anyway?”
“Oh. That she is resigning because she is taking accountability of what happened to Paula.”
Ingrid frowned. “She didn't do anything to Paula.”
“I know that. But, her defense is by far, what the ‘Hamertonians’ want to hear.”
Ingrid shook her head with disappointment.
“C’mon. Let’s find Natalie.”
Ingrid nodded and followed him out.

=====

“Natalie Bradley?”
Natalie almost jumped on her feet when she heard Archibald’s voice calling behind her.
She was at the door of the computer lab of the chief building when Archibald called her.
She turned around slowly, taking a deep breath to confront the school principal. “Good morning sir?” she greeted, weakly.
“There is nothing good about this morning. After you broke of the engagement of Hamerton with SOHOR and almost killed one of its members.” He reckoned, aggravatingly.
“Sir, I promise that, Paula hurt me first. She was going to kill me. And about SOHOR, I intended to get Hamerton a new allegiance.”
“Oh please?” he whined. “That is pathetic and stupidity. Everyone knows that you were not satisfied with the case of your deceased friend, Ashleigh. Besides that, you blamed the SOHOR for not reprimanding her.”
“Sir, you are all misled by the rumors spreading about my feelings towards Paula’s fate after Ashleigh’s death.”
He rounded his eyes. “Whatever. It doesn’t matter now because, you are no longer President.”
She was silent, looking down.
“Now, come with me to the theater. There you will announce your resignation.”
She looked worriedly at him. “Right now sir? I thought that, I would have a few more days. Or… at least, hours.”
“Don’t worry, I convinced the discipline panel to lessen your burden of recklessly governing Hamerton.”
She frowned.
He laughed cynically and turned around. “Oh how I can’t wait to strip you off your authorities.” He said loud enough to irritate her. “Follow me.”
Natalie glanced the computer lab’s door and sighed. She then turned to Archibald and escorted him to the theater in the ground floor.
They met with reporters just after their elevator cubicle opened. Archibald made sure to get as much coverage as he humiliated Natalie.
“Well, it is a pity that we could have such incompetent leaders.” Archibald said to the reporter of Hamerton All Day, a new TV that he sponsored, aside from the school Television station.
Showing entertainment programs and various uncredited live shows, HAD TV had gained much popularity in Hamerton than HTV.
Natalie sighed at Archibald’s rude comment about her to the reporter. She however, chose to answer no questions to the press.

They presumed the journey to the theater where Natalie was sure that, she was going to proclaim her demise ..

HAMERTON 2 Chapter 2 episode 4

HAMERTON 2
Thank you God for this opportunity.
Hallo new viewers and Happy and Peaceful elections Tanzania!

Hamerton. A large school offering the finest Education to the students of the state and overseas. Natalie joins this school arriving from Brooklyn and she has grief over her lost friends who were murdered in Hamerton. She teams up with Ingrid and their fellow seniors against the House of Representatives to prevent a bomb blast that could cause a large massacre.

Previously on Hamerton; Trevor, Natalie and Ingrid follows Hamerton's bus to where it drops Ralph Brooks. They end up at Mr. Dickson's house who tells them that Caitlin is really alive and explains the circumstances in which he had to care for her and her brother until they recently parted. When Natalie requests for it, Ester, Mr. Dickson's wife provides her with Caitlin's contact information which happens to be a new email that Caitlin is using.
Ingrid doubts their visit there.

Please continue;

They arrived the school campus and Trevor dropped them there.
Natalie rushed to the computer lab in the chief building with Ingrid to contact Caitlin through her email.
They sat in their usual spot behind a desktop computer and Natalie switched it on then connected to the Local Area Network.
“You know,” Natalie begun, telling Ingrid when she opened a web browser. “We found Caitlin logged in to this same computer, a year ago.”
“I remember that.” Ingrid said.
Natalie opened Gmail and added her account.
Ingrid watched her. “If only the computers weren't flashed every semester, we could still access Caitlin’s original mail.”
“Yes. But, there is no need for that, Caitlin has a new email now.” Natalie said composing a new mail.
Ingrid was silent.
Natalie murmured as she typed. “Hallo Caitlin. What’s up?” she laughed. “I really miss you my friend. I know that you are still alive and I want you to respond as soon as you get this email. I love you so much my dear friend… we have a lot to catch up.” She paused continuing to type silently and after confirming it, she sent it.
“That was a nice letter.” Ingrid said afterward.
Natalie laughed with excitement. “She usually replies her mails quickly. If she is with her phone now, she’ll tell me something.”
“She must be older now.”
“Yeah.”
“I miss her too, though, we were very young when we parted.”
Didn't you see her when she came to Hamerton?”
“I think that she went to class S.”
“Oh. Okay.”
Ingrid glanced at the monitor then back at Natalie. “Did you two have similar passwords?”
“No, no.” Natalie said.
“Alright.”
“But, why do you ask?”
“I still wanted us to check her Gmail.”
“Ingrid c’mon? The teacher already told us that, Caitlin was not herself after the attack so she must have forgotten her Gmail password and couldn't have possibly be using it.”
“Okay.” Ingrid accepted.
Natalie turned to the screen and seeing no response from Caitlin, she said. “Let me send Trevor this email. He asked for it.”
“Sure.”
Ingrid waited as Natalie tapped the keyboard, thinking on how to recover the President’s badge. “You should pretend to have lost your badge.”
“Send.” Natalie said to the computer and turned to Ingrid. “Yes. I think so too. Otherwise, there would be no explanation as to why I have a spare badge.”
“Okay. Are you done?”
“Yeah.”
“Are you waiting for Caitlin’s reply?”
“I don’t know. Should I?”
“Maybe she is far from her phone. We can come back and check another time.”
Natalie nodded and signed out, read to leave.

**

That night, Trevor stood on the roof of a tall building which also served as the parking lot for their helicopter.
He embraced himself in the cold, though he was clad in a heavy white jacket. The temperature at that height was very low but, he did not hesitate to go up there, to enjoy the glamorous view, of the colorful lit town, under the 9:00pm sky.
“I should take Natalie here someday.” He thought aloud, stepping close to the edge of the giant building.
“I don’t think so.” Corny’s voice disagreed with Trevor in his ear.
Trevor frowned. “I told you not to pick in my head.”
“I am not.”
“Yes you are. Now, turn off your speakers.”
“Where are you?” Corny asked instead.
Trevor sighed with impatience. “I’m on the roof.”
“Okay. We are coming.”
“We? You and who?” Trevor asked in queer.
There was no reply.
He turned around to watch the elevator cubicle some yards from him on the roof.
In at least a minute, the elevator doors parted and Corny and Henry walked out, approaching Trevor who was still standing at the edge of the roof.
“Are you gonna jump?” Henry called.
Trevor shook his head, waiting for them.
They halted a few feet from Trevor and Corny had one of his hands buried in his overcoat pocket and the other, holding an envelope.
“So,” Trevor begun. “What is the meaning of this rude invasion of privacy?”
“Trevor. You are the only one being rude here.” Corny informed him. “Considering the fact that I let you come back to Hamerton.”
Trevor gave Corny a fearful expression. But, of course, Corny would have found out in the end that, Trevor took his friends around the streets of Hamerton, earlier that day. “Okay. I am sorry that I left with the girls this afternoon. I had to. Nonetheless we discovered a lot of things.”
“Yes. You might have but, now your inconsiderate actions has led to this,” he said and waved to Trevor the envelope.
Trevor took it reluctantly. “What’s inside?”
“Something to blackmail me.” Corny replied.
Trevor furrowed his eyebrows in queer and opened the envelope hastily and took out a couple of pictures.
He checked them. “Howls, these are photos of me and Natalie in the school leaders’ quarters.”
“So, you also went to Hamerton.” Corny reckoned.
Trevor glanced at him and sighed. “I meant to tell you that.” At this, Corny shook his head in disappointment but, before he could say anything, Trevor added, “I don’t understand Howls. How’s this meant to hurt you and not me?”
“Because, Trevor, I am your father’s employee meant to protect you from danger and sending you back to Hamerton is no way near protecting you from danger.” Corny explained complainingly.
“You mean, someone is blackmailing you with these photos so that dad can fire you?” Trevor asked. “Why?”
“I can’t know that.”
“You have to. What should these photos mean? What are their implications?”
“That I am not doing my job.”
“But, I am not hurt.” Trevor said in defense.
“Not yet. At least that is what your father will think.”
Trevor sighed deeply, realizing the truth. “They want me out of Hamerton.”
“That’s what I assume as well.” Corny agreed.
“Have these pics reached my father?” Trevor asked.
“I hope not but, just in case they have, we will have to say that Henry went to trick Natalie that he was you and that you have always been in Paris with your brother’s family.”
Trevor looked at Henry and nodded to Corny. “Okay.”
“Good.” Corny said.
“How did they take these photos? There were only two of us in that room.” Trevor inquired. Clearly his mind was still worried about the photos.
“There is a CCTV imprint at the bottom of the pics.” Henry helped. “I guess your school’s security has improved.”
Trevor sighed. “How could I have missed that?”
“It has already happened, Trevor. Now, you have to call Natalie and tell her that you may not see her again.” Corny said.
“Not, not again, Howls. I will find a way to see her.”
“Until things cool down perhaps.” Corny added not wanting to give Trevor much hope.
“Can’t I just face father and tell him that I love Natalie? Maybe, he’ll give me a chance.”
“Trevor. I thought that you know your dad more than I do. You want him to keep you in isolation? Trust me, he won’t hesitate to do that if you insist on coming to Hamerton or seeing Natalie Bradley.” Corny said.
Trevor glanced at Henry and developed an idea. “I will pretend that I’m him. Yes!. Henry can take my place in college and be the boyfriend of Kehlan while I can see Natalie and help her save Hamerton.”
“It’s impossible, Trevor. Get that out of your head.” Corny said.
Trevor drew a deep sigh.
Corny looked at Trevor and feeling pitiful, tried to comfort him. “Maybe I will think of something but, later not anytime soon okay?”
Trevor nodded a little. He was unsatisfied.
Henry darted his gaze around the roof, checking the security then turned back to his company. “Let’s get out of here. Howls, will you fly or, I will?”
